for Lesiba, transcribed from the performance of Mr Molefi Khoele by Jiwe Publishers
“Phakoe is a Sotho word for a Hawk. Thusetsa means help us. During harvest time there are usually a lot of locusts and other insects that come around in the fields, the people perform this song to plead with the hawk to come and help with the insects. The Hawk plays the role of a repellent for the insect. In Lesotho the work has many different versions; all Lesiba players are expected to know how to play the song as it is a measure for how good a player is.” (Mpho Molikeng, 2019)
