Mr Mabasa was recorded in Malamulele district in Giyani in 1986. He was a devout Christian and recorded traditional songs and his own religious compositions for Mr Dave Dargie. His Xitende bow was a giant 2, 5-metre bow.

When recording the traditional songs Mr Mabasa was joined by a group of women who were singing, drumming and performing a secular dance while Mr Mabasa was seated in the middle playing his bow
