Khanyisile Peterson is a recent BMus graduate from Wits University in Johannesburg South Africa, where she majored in Composition and Musicology. Although she is classically trained with guitar as her main instrument, Khanyisile enjoys playing and creating a wide variety of music, often making use of her experience as a vocalist and marimba player. As a lover of jazz and various indigenous and vocal African music, her music is often layered and polyrhythmic. Her two most recent compositions were commissioned by the Purpur festival (2019) and the Sterkfontein Composer’s Meeting (2019).
Khanyisile is currently completing a Master’s degree on jazz afro-modernity in the works of South African Visual artist Dumile Feni. She plans to pursue another Master’s degree in composition and film music composition.
