Volley Nchabaleng (b.1978) hails from the village of Masemola (Thabampshe) in the Limpopo province. He studied with Sibikwa Arts Centre and then at UNISA. He worked with Drama for Life as a playback theatre musician.

Volley is influenced by divers sounds of world musics. He has performed around Africa as well as in India, China, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, France and Australia.

As a composer Volley wrote the music for Africa my love and Makhulu by Portia Mashingo, which toured Europe between 2009 and 2012. He also wrote the music for the Tribhangi Dance Company’s Ekhaya, Tefo Paya’s Morwa the rising son and Lebo Leisa’s Paleho.

Volley’s passion is for indigenous music, which he teaches, collects instruments, creates new works and performs.
